What is PADI Discover Scuba Diving?
The PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) program is a one-day experience (2 Dives) that allows you to dive in open water, up to 12 meters, without prior certification. It’s ideal for beginners who want to see if scuba diving is for them, or for those who just want a taste of the underwater adventure while on holiday in Koh Samui.
It is not a certification, but it is registered with PADI, and participants receive credit for the 1st dive, towards the 4 dives needed to complete the PADI Open Water Diver (OWD) certification (entry-level certification). Indeed, participants who complete the DSD, if they wish, can continue to their OWD certification, by adding 2 days of training to the DSD. In this case, participants receive one dive free of charge.

What to Expect During the Discover Scuba Diving Experience
Your day will start between 7.45-8.15am (depending on where you are staying) when we pick you up from your resort and transfer you to the dive center, where you will meet with your instructor to receive the briefing. The boat departs around 9am.
The Discover Scuba Diving program includes a combination of theory, practice, and diving:
- Briefing Session: Before you dive, you’ll receive an overview of the basic principles of scuba diving, including how to use your gear, safety tips, and communication underwater.
- Confined Water Practice: You’ll practice essential skills in a shallow, calm environment to get comfortable with the equipment and breathing underwater.
- Open Water Dive: The highlight of the program is your open water dive, where you’ll descend up to 12 meters with your instructor by your side. You’ll explore a beautiful dive site around Koh Samui, witnessing vibrant marine life and stunning coral reefs.
Destinations: Koh Tao (Mon, Thu, and Sat) or Sail Rock (Tue, Wed, Fri, and Sun)
The journey to Koh Tao takes around 1 hour 20 minutes and to Sail Rock it takes around 50 minutes, these locations are both suitable for the DSD, and guarantee beautiful dives. At Koh Tao, we make one dive in the morning, have lunch on the boat during the surface interval, then move the boat to a second dive site for another dive. At Sail Rock we do two dives at the same spot.
